Fred Theatre Limited was established in 2012 by artistic director Robert F. Ball. Since then we have brought together a range of midlands-based talent across more than a dozen productions. Fred seeks out the very best actors, designers, and writers to deliver high quality professional theatre—often in non-traditional theatre spaces
Fred’s mission is summed up as: Classic drama, contemporary theatre. We look for new ways to re-tell familiar stories, and to bring the very best in new writing to the stage.
And the name? Well, it’s just that… a name! We hope Fred sounds friendly, welcoming, a name you will remember and come to trust will provide you with great theatre.
Our price promise
Fred believes in theatre for all, but there are bills to pay. However, the company promises that its tickets will never cost more than the cheapest tickets available at the National Theatre. Often they are much cheaper.
Fred is nothing without its people. From January 2017 all members of the team receive AT LEAST the National Minimum Wage across all rehearsals and performances.
Fred is very much an equal opportunities company and welcomes applications from all regardless of gender, faith, ethnicity and sexual orientation. We aim for equal representation of the genders in our productions, however each show has unique requirements and this is not always possible.
Fred is always delighted to hear from authors. However, we cannot guarantee to read scripts and there are companies who are better set-up to do this for you. If you have an idea which you think Fred might be interested in, please email us a brief summary of your play as well as information about you and we’ll get back to you when we can (might take a little time!).
Support our work
Fred is very grateful for the support it receives from very many people, especially our audiences. The best way to help us continue to provide top-class theatre is to buy tickets for our shows. However, if you would like to make a financial contribution (big or small) that would be just lovely. You can do this HERE.
Fred Theatre does not tolerate modern slavery or human trafficking in our organisation or in our supply chain.
The company supports universal human rights, including equal employment, freedom of speech and of association, and cultural, economic and social well-being. We strongly oppose illegal or inhumane labour practices, including slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour and human trafficking. Fred Theatre is committed to tackling slavery through the assessment of risk in our supply chain and due diligence on our suppliers.
